World-Class Education Discipline in Conjunction with China's Education Innovation

Background

The construction of the base relies on the strong support from the following institutions: Faculty of Education, School of Psychology, College of Physical Education and Sports, School of Continuing Education and Teacher Training, involving three disciplines of education, psychology and sports science.
The base possesses two national key disciplines: Education and Psychology. Under the disciplines, it has eight national key sub-disciplines: Education Principle, Comparative Education, History of Education, Educational Technology, Economics of Education and Management, Fundamental Psychology, Developmental and Educational Psychology, and Applied Psychology.
It also owns three Ministry of Education key research bases for humanities and social sciences at general higher education institutions, including Comparative Education Research Center, Teacher Education Research Center, and Developmental Psychology Research Institute, one Digital Learning and Educational Public Service Research Center as well as two Beijing Key Laboratories funded by Beijing City Government, comprising of the Laboratory of Education Technology and the Laboratory of Applied Psychology.
The research team of this base is made up of two Chair Professors of the Cheung Kong Scholars Program, two professors of the National Talents Project, three of National Renowned Teachers, three of the Trans-Century Talents of the Ministry of Education, twenty-seven of the New-Century Talents of the Ministry of Education and one of National Teaching Team.

Objectives

The research base is aimed at to becoming the important birthplace for innovation of Chinese Education, the training base for cultivating top-notch educational professional, the cradle of future educators, the think tank of educational policy-making, the crucial base for international educational exchange and educational cultural industry. By 2020, some of sub-disciplines will be expected to rank in the world-class or internationally-known level, and some will turn into domestic distinctive ones.

Contents

1. Talent or Professional Cultivation
The base is committed to building cultivation base for high-quality talents or professionals and cultivate a group of high-standard talents; promoting construction of curriculum and teaching materials with the achievements of eight to twelve national-referred courses, eighteen to twenty-four national-referred excellent textbooks, eighteen to twenty-six bilingual and English-instructed curricula; striving for attaining two to four national-level teaching achievement awards and establishing three to seven national-level teaching teams; adjusting the undergraduate programs and increasing English-instructed program; establishing five to eight digitalized teaching laboratories; and creating the cultivation mechanism characterized by the integration of undergraduates and postgraduates.

2. Building of the Teachers' Contingent
In order to establish academic group with reasonable professional structure, excellent collaboration with each other, strong research capacity, and full of vitality, the base plans to promote four to six scholars tilted the "Thousand Talents Plan", three to five titled the "Cheung Kong Scholars" or the "National Outstanding Youth Award", two to three titled "National Talents", about forty titled the "New Century Talents". Moreover, five to eight international renowned experts will be employed and two to four Ministry of Education's Innovation Team will be built up.

3. International Exchange and Cooperation
The base will hold "Beijing Normal University International Education Innovation Forum" once a year, and invite six outstanding scholars from the world-class Faculty of Education to make seminars. The base will fund three international research projects per year on average, boost five to eight excellent education research works to the world. The number of foreign students will be expected to grow at an average annual rate of 10%, and the base will provide overseas study opportunity for domestic students with the same increase rate.

4. Scientific Research
The base will strive for attaining two to three National Social Science Funds projects, six to eight Ministry of Education Major Research Projects, two National 863 Projects, over ten national key projects, and five to seven national Nature Science Foundation projects. It is expected to make the international research projects with foreign universities and scholars. The publication of academic journals and papers in the SSCI, A&HCI, SSCI, EI, and ISTP is expected to increase at an average annual rate of 20%. Every year each scholar is required to publish two CSSCI/CSCD papers per capita, and publish one or two Chinese and English academic monographs and textbooks per capita. It is expected to gain three to six patents and more than five first and ten second prizes in Scientific Research Award above the provincial level.

5. Social Services
The base will submit three consulting reports and research reports to the international organizations, fifteen adopted reports to the national and provincial departments. It will create ten to fourteen experimental areas or bases, cultivating at least one hundred renowned principals and teachers, and develop 100 rural experimental schools in the western part of China, two hundred rural experimental schools in other regions. it will build at least ten education information systems and cognitive tools with independent intelligent property rights.

6. Construction of the Base, Laboratory, Database and Academic Journals
It is expected to construct one national-level engineering center, four to six Ministry of Education Key Research Bases for Humanities And Social Sciences at General Higher Education Institutions or provincial key laboratories. The base will build a nationwide education information collection network, and develop systematic educational resources information center and education project database. It will also facilitate the construction of academic journals, establishing one English academic journal or electronic one, and improving the academic reputation of existing publications.
