Cultural Heritage and Cultural Development
Background
The research base is composed mainly of Chinese language and literature (primary national key discipline) and history (primary Beijing municipal key discipline), and also covers other disciplines such as art theory, film and TV studies (quasi national key discipline), folklore studies (secondary national key discipline), journalism and communication, foreign language and literature, and Chinese pedagogy. The research base involves the School of Chinese Language and Literature, the School of History, the School of Chinese Ancient Books and Traditional Culture, the School of Chinese Language and Culture, the School of Art and Communication, and three Ministry of Education Key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences (Center for Literary Theory Studies, Center for Folklore Classics and Chinese Characters, and Center for Research in Historical Theory and Historiography) and one key research base jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Education (Center for Collection and Normalization of Chinese Characters). More than 250 professors and associate professors work here, including 9 chief experts of the national and Ministry of Education "Project to Study and Develop Marxist Theory," 3 members of Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, 1 Changjiang Scholar, 2 recipients of the "National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project."
Objectives
To build a world-class research team in Chinese culture and dissemination by integrating interdisciplinary resources; to make great contributions to the construction of a new socialist culture by yielding influential research results; to construct an internationally renowned research center, a national think tank, and a powerful transmitting site of Chinese culture by exploring effective and efficient ways of the dissemination of Chinese culture and values.
Contents
To improve greatly the research of individual disciplines while to rationally arrange a discipline system of "cultural heritage and cultural development"; to form about ten elite creative research teams by introducing and cultivating top talents; to focus on the projects of "Inheritance, Development, and Application of Traditional Chinese Philology," "Comparative Literature Studies and Cultural Exchange," "Study and Promotion of Chinese Art Media," "Study and Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage," "Study and Practice of the Dissemination of Chinese Culture," "Cultural Interaction and the Historical Rethinking of Cultural Development," "Study of Historical and Cultural Heritage in China", which will produce research results of international influence and social implications; to strengthen the study of cultural and creative industries by exploring new academic methodologies and mechanisms; to gain international popularity by regular and various cultural practices and academic exchanges; to internationalize the campus and to train students with both interdisciplinary knowledge and an international worldview; to construct a few academic infrastructures such as "Center for the Dissemination of Chinese Culture Overseas," "Center for Yuan Books and Culture," "Center for National Art Accomplishment," "Center for Historical Theory and Historiography."
