Public Security Policy and Legal Protection for Social Stability

Background

The research base of Public Security Policy and Legal Protection for Social Stability encompasses five participant units, i.e. School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP), Systems Science Department at the School of Management (SSD), Law School (LS), College for Criminal Law Science (CCLS) and China Academy of Social Management (CASM). Through high-level interdisciplinary collaboration, the base takes full advantage of various disciplines, theories, evidence-based analyses and technical analyses.

The base spans a range of disciplines and is capable of granting relevant master's and doctoral degrees i.e. Public Policy, Social Work, Complex Systems Theory, Criminal Jurisprudence, Litigation Law, International Jurisprudence, and Civil Law and Commercial law. The base covers three national key disciplines-Systems Science (top domestic ranked), Criminal Law and Criminal Litigation Law, as well as a Beijing key discipline, Public Management, and a key university-level research base of Scientific Outlook on Development and Social Management Innovation.

The base has more than 150 faculty members including over 40 professors and 50 associate professors as well as more than 120 undergraduate students, nearly 400 research-oriented graduate students, hundreds of MPA students, more than 200 postgraduate students and over 30 international students.

Objectives

The base's major research areas are international public security, social management and legal protection. It adopts a regularly learning mechanism and incorporates advanced international experience. The base will keep pace with the cutting-edge research, policy practice and technical innovation. Through systematic and institutional reforms, the base aims to becoming a top-notch academic research center, an international communication platform, and a policy think-tank with the focus on integration, cross-discipline (e.g. social security, social policy, law and systems science), and applied sciences by building high-level talents team and providing high-quality scientific research and social services.

Contents

The base will consolidate the current Beijing key discipline and national key disciplines, and keep the related disciplines top-ranked so as to develop a holistic discipline system at a higher level. In terms of scientific research, the base will develop extensive database for evidence-based research and analysis. Moreover, the base will reflect on the key issues of social development, summarize the modes, and predict the trends, while building a motivating mechanism for producing high-quality articles on international publications at the level of SCI and SSCI. In terms of talents cultivation, the base will improve the quality of teaching, curriculum, and training in order to support the growth of fundamental research talents competitive for high-level academic research and comprehensive talents with applied disciplines background and capable of resolving key issues to meet the urgent needs of national and social development. The base will recruit a number of domestic and overseas top talents and experts to build high-level and creative teams. It will further and deepen international partnerships and enhance its international influence. Finally, the base will make every effort to transfer research outputs into practices, actively participate in social services delivery, and find solutions to key issues.
