Research Center for Scientific Development Concept and Sustainable Economic Development

Background

The Research Center for Scientific Development Concept and Sustainable Economic Development of Beijing Normal University encompasses Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Statistics, Public Administration and Business Administration. Co-established by the School of Economics and Resource Management (SERM), the School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA), the School of Management and Institute of National Accounts, the Center has degree authorization eligibility on three first level disciplines of Theoretical Economics, Statistics and Public Administration, 11 Ph. D. programs and 19 master programs, of which Education Economics and Management is the national key secondary discipline, Public Administration is the Beijing key first level discipline, and World Economics is the Beijing key secondary discipline. Among the faculties, there are one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one State-approval Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions, five Trans/New-century Talents of Ministry of Education and one member of Social Sciences Committee of Ministry of Education.

Objectives

Based on the perspective of scientific development, the Center is aimed at improving the horizon of Theoretical Economics and Public Administration as well as strengthening the Applied Economics, Statistics and Business Administration. It's endeavored to reach the national top 10 Economics and Administration disciplines, which is to be the most important open research platform for theories of scientific development nationwide.

Contents

The Center is to propel rapid advancement of such disciplines as World Economics, Macroeconomics, Regional Economics, Economics of Education, Labor Economics, Rural Economy, Statistics, Public Administration and Business Administration, and to promote the significant development of some emerging disciplines like Green Economics, Energy Economics and Ecological Economics.
The Center's research emphases are closely integrated with scientific development. Research outcomes are increasingly assessed by more quantitative measurements. The report series on China scientific development index are supported, of which China Green Development Index Report, China Development Report of People's Well-Being and China Labor Market Report have been published annually. China Green Development Index Report 2010 is awarded of 2011 China Soft Science Prize.
The existing human resource development and overseas talents recruitment are combined to improve the faculty team capacity building. The innovative research and teaching teams are cultivated, the overseas academic talents are recruited, and some intelligence development projects are launched including Recruitment Program of Global Experts, Cheung Kong Scholars Programme, National Distinguished Young Scholars Program, etc. Eight to ten leading academicians are to be emerging and three to five overseas distinguished professors are to be appointed.
The international communication and cooperation are fully promoted through holding international conferences, collaborating substantially with the first class universities and academic institutions across the world on teaching and research, inviting overseas noted scholars to come to visit and give lectures, sending prominent teachers abroad, carrying out student exchange program with well-known foreign universities, and jointly founding Green Development Initiative for Asia and the Pacific (GDI.AP) with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
The Center propels to serve the national and local development, with its research outcomes acquiring approval or endorsement from the state or ministerial leaders and facilitating the government decision-making, meanwhile, exploring the way of serving the local governments and enterprises.
To promote the development of research platform, efforts are to be made to apply for the Humanities and Social Sciences Base of Ministry of Education, and jointly build research bases with other universities, local governments and enterprises. The construction of key economics laboratories are also to be strengthened.
