Basic Science
Background
This project mainly concerns fields of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The institutions involved are School of Mathematical Sciences, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Astrology. In the basic sciences at BNU, there are now 4 national key subjects (Probability and Statistics, Basic Mathematics. Theoretical Physics, and Physical Chemistry); 4 key subjects of Beijing (Condensed Matter, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Astrophysics); 2 national basic science research and teaching training bases (mathematics, and physics); 2 key laboratory in Beijing (Applied Optics and Photo-electronic functional materials); Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry doctoral programs.
Objectives
The Academy of Basic Sciences will be constructed, which is made up of the following five research centers for Stochastics, Pure Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, and Theoretical Chemistry, and material Chemistry., and Astrophysics. Correspondingly, the five innovative research teams respectively in above fields will be established. Great efforts will be made to ensure that the research in one or two dominant subjects reaches the top level of the world and that the research in other related fields reaches or approaches the international advanced level. Meanwhile, the academy aims to supply more talents in basic science for the national construction and, ultimately, to become a science and technology innovation platform and talent training center, which ranks the first class domestically and has enormous influence internationally.
Contents
According to "the National Strategy for Middle and Long Term Development in Science and Technology" on the frontier related to core mathematics and its joint fields with science and technology, condensed matter and quantum idiosyncrasy, quantum control, creating and transforming new substance, and astronomy, the academy will conduct researches into the problems and theories concerning Stochastics , Pure Mathematics, Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Science, Condensed Matter Theory, and Theoretical Chemistry, and Material Chemistry, and Cosmology and Stellar Physics .
